We have them for years here in germany and no they're not dangerous there is just a massiv lobby that doesn't like the concept.

“Reminder: also keep in mind the construction carrying capacity of the roof. If that's the state of electrics, I assume the roofs won't be constructed to carry the wind load and the weight of solar, and have you walking around on them. From a fellow solar installer. Don't fall through roofs, don't let panels blow away in a tropical storm.”

“It’s quite common to see better DIY work than “professional”. One wants a good system to work for years safely, the other just wants to grab the money.”

“So you have Artisan quoting £1000-£2000 for an EICR and wonder why customers end up being wary of electrians and just default to the cheapest. The industry is so up its self with unrealistic and greedy earning expectations it's contributed to this issue.”

“As a non tradsman I do this: Do as much as possible myself; plastering, painting, changing sockets, taps, anything I can do competently. Then I have a very small number of tradespeople I trust. They are not the cheapest ( probably - I don't actually know, as I never get quotes from others), but they are professionals, and typically I have found them through word of mouth. Good tradespeople are a treasure, and should be treated as such.”

You’ve moved on so far from where you were. It would be great if someone could spot this and move you on to a bigger an audience.”

“They haven't updated the rules for Northern Ireland yet for plug in solar, but this year I began using a solar generator box and 2 panels and have reduced my bill from £440 a quarter to £145, I haven't connected to mains but I swapped all the lighting in my house to rechargeable bulbs and charge them from my box and I run my TV etc at night directly from the box, the only electric I pay for is generally just appliances in the kitchen, it has been life changing and a fun hobby, you feel like your beating the system.”
