“I know I'm not the fastest electrician because I am a bit of a perfectionist but I could never do an EICR in an hour. I don't mind admitting that EICR's are something I avoid because you always find something wrong and sometimes the fixes are just to big a job to commercially absorb. I did one yesterday, isolation test failed, investigated, it was (as usual) associated with the immersion heater, this time the immersion isolator switch had failed. The lady was panicking, her husband was ill, out of kindness, I offered to fix it for a tenner, changed the isolator, isolation test become L/Pc short, oh shit! then discovered the reason why the isolator had failed in the first place, the insulation of the wiring was all cracked (and was shorting), so I replaced all the wire from the isolator (that I could only get access to with a bit of plumbing, (I am also qualified HVAC) then discovered the PRV (pressure release valve) had been dripping on the wiring for years (root cause) so I had to replace that. So, I don't like to comment on others EICR because it depends on the type of electrician you are and what you specialise in, for me I will stick to large 3-phase complicated hybrid / battery PVS systems with heat pumps, VRF HVAC systems where I have to do engineering drawings, plans, get permissions etc. Ok, I am charging 10k in labour (but the job will take months), but its much more fun, its my speciality, its what I am geared up for and I have the tools / machinery to do it safely and efficiently. Yesterday was the last EICR I will ever do!”
“"proof it's possible and mental freedom of not being reliant on other people or services" --> same reasons why I wanted to go off-grid here at 63 degrees north :)”
“I loved this episode. There are many of use who think we’ve hit hard times, but realistically, all we’ve lost is our way.”
“Victron is what you need if you don't want it to fail. Built to last and high quality 👍. You get what you pay for at the end of the day”
“civil engineer here: with the wire cables you're pretty much doing what we do offshore on platform turbines that are in water too deep for any kind of placement in the seabed. great video :) get some decent tube section steel for the post and grease everything! the prototype was a great success haha”
“The spirit of Louis Rossman in action is a joy to behold, hack on! You crazy kids!”
“Part 3? Showing the whole system working, and a summary of everything......that would be awesome”
“Be good to see a review in 3 months and then again after winter when less sun! Good work, excellent system”
“EV manufacturers should be required to release full technical information about how to repurpose their batteries for other uses, rather than letting them go to landfill prematurely. They should also be modularised so they are repairable.”
“The BMS ECU will go to sleep because it's not seeing activity on the CAN bus. You'll need to record a log from the iPace and play it back through SavvyCAN in a loop. Then turn off the IDs one by one until you find the network management frame it's looking for to keep it awake. I don't have any experience with the iPace CAN, but I've done extensive reverse-engineering on Teslas systems, and this is how they work.”
“I've got a larger Victron system here in Australia, 3 x 5000va Multiplus II's, 2 x 250/85 MPPT's and 1 x 250/100 MPPT, along with a Cerbo GX. In the climate I live in near Melbourne Victoria, the Winter months do not provide enough for my needs, however the summer months there is a huge excess of power. I don't feed into the grid because you don't get paid anything now to do so, but the grid is connected to supplement needs during winter. We've filled the roof with 12.6kW of panels. The battery is 30kWh of useable. A few things you highlighted, 30mA RCD's here are the regulation regardless of whether you're on or off grid. The AC wire you used has been in use here in Australia for probably a good 15 or 20 years. What's hurting VIctron over here is the fact not many electricians are familiar with the equipment. My electrician was not familiar with the gear but he was definitely impressed by the quality and how configurable it is -- you can customise it to suit whatever needs you have, not a one item suits all approach. The weight of the Victron gear is to do with the LF transformer inside, they are big, heavy, and high quality. Thanks for the quality video Cory, and was Chester a bit sore after that heavy lifting? 😂”
“Robert Murray-Smith experimented with a bunch of different turbines and wind collection towers. RIP RMS, you are missed.”
“I hope there's a part 3 Cory! These are my favorite kind of videos”
“Number of blades determines the rpm and torque. More blades lower rpm, higher torque. The highest rpm rotor is a single bladed one but it needs a counterweight. A better counterweight is a second blade but 2 blades cause oscillations. 3 blades works out the best being the least number of blades that are stable.”
“Many thanks Cory for a great install, it runs at over 1800watts during the day, and even with a days use it’s only using 40% of the battery, and no Rhino !!”
“difference between a good weld and bad one = angle grinder and spray paint”
“2:30 I rewatched a few times and giggled. love that”
“Most people who are calling themselves 'engineer' are usually doing work that would be defined as a 'technician'. If you're assembling, then you're a technician, if you're maintaining, then you're a technician. If you're doing complex calculations to design a system, not just following rules of thumb, procedures or simple formulas, then you might be doing engineering. A simple voltage drop calculation wouldn't require much engineering knowledge, that's just a procedure. In the UK, the term engineer is abused, in other countries the title Engineer can only be used if you've qualified and been certified as an engineer by an approved professional body.”
“Ppl can say what they want. Victron is THE BEST manufacturer , period. They have an ecosystem that’s just brilliant. They might not be bleeding edge in every way but the quality is unmatched and they are beyond cutting edge when it comes to their inter communication capabilities and their set up for configuration and monitoring. Also it’s supporting European manufacturers. I’d pay more every time to avoid using Asian made products. What I do wish is that they started making BMS’s for DIY LiFePo batteries. Also please do give me an example of an ecosystem that’s allows integrating equipment from other manufacturers of inverters and batteries and has car chargers that only use excessive solar production to charge your car. Yes. The car charger is controlled by the Victron system. Just brilliant. Ooooh and best of all? It goes straight into HomeAssistant.”

We have them for years here in germany and no they're not dangerous there is just a massiv lobby that doesn't like the concept.
Hey Cory, We are an experienced Victron installer based in Cape Town (with Fronius experience). If we can help your project in any way—either as volunteers or with monitoring—just shout. It looks like a worthwhile project. Best of luck in 2026!
Will the current lizards be compatible with the DC systems, or is it necessary to upgrade them too?
Thank goodness it's being kept on a good sturdy leash - I've heard ram prices are on the up at the moment.
Reminder: also keep in mind the construction carrying capacity of the roof. If that's the state of electrics, I assume the roofs won't be constructed to carry the wind load and the weight of solar, and have you walking around on them. From a fellow solar installer. Don't fall through roofs, don't let panels blow away in a tropical storm.
Every new home in the UK should have solar as standard.
Bro just flies halfway across the world without properly planning the flight.
I don't usually comment on videos, however the message here so strong it's worthwhile for everyone to hear it both sparks and and non. I'd even go as far to say that this channel was worth its creation for this video alone.
It's good to see another electrician support this. Too many are against a technology that has been proven to work for a long time in another country, just to protect their own interests.
The race to the bottom is not just Electricians, it's across the economic world.
