Plastic and a bolt is not a fuse!

“As a retired electrical engineer and someone who has built DIY solar projects for my home backup system and RV, I have followed Will's YouTube channel for a long time. He is very knowledgeable on the topic and I respect his opinions. His teardown findings on various BB batteries (old and new) were astonishing. BB batteries' major mechanical and electrical design flaws have been exposed, which render them hazardous in my opinion. I understand your reluctance to write off $6k of investment but counting on being lucky is not a good operational plan. If you want to continue using them, test each and every battery individually and monitor them closely going forward. Invest in a thermal camera and check the connections often. There are so many good alternatives these days you could probably replace the equivalent capacity for under $2000.”
“In 2019, I bought 10 Battleborn Batteries just like the ones you have. I have an all-Victron system in my off-grid travel trailer. Last summer before all this hit, I felt I was getting poor battery performance, went and tested each battery and found one that was shut off (I was never able to wake it up using Battleborns instructions, trying to return it was a nightmare so I just pulled all 10 Batteries and am going move them to a new project in a space I don't live in actually, 9 working batteries (they have had no issues that I have seen) and replaced them with LiTime 25.8v 280Ah (4). I got twice the capacity for half the cost of what I paid for the Battleborns. Battleborns were the gold standard in 2019, but in 2026, there are a ton of options at a lot lower cost. I have followed Will Prose since 2019 and completely respect his opinion. I'm sorry to see how poorly Battleborn has managed this issue. I will not be buying any more of their equipment due to their poor response to this challenge.”
“Will is correct in is opinion , that design is not right. how any battery company that states that a piece of melted plastic is a designed safety disconnect is so wrong.”
“Update: I would take these batteries out of service. There are more issues uncovered now and last week someone doing a 50A capacity test to see if they are working still had a meltdown. The fumes these batteries can release are not joke. Please take them out of service and dispose of them. My old comment: I would get an internal resistance meter like the FNIRSI HRM-10 and see if the internal resistance is under 10milliohms. Glad you guys are checking them! The plastic inside that is holding the electrical connection together will change over time, and using it in a vehicle with vibration can make it worse. It is not if but when they will start to disconnect. Cold weather and lower current can make them fail faster surprisingly.”
“Can I tell you how good it made me feel to listen to you and Phil when he was parking? I thought my husband was the only one who gets exasperated and stressed out! But Stacy stayed so calm, I would’ve been snapping back! 😂”
“I’ve lived in Oregon since 1999…there is no bad weather- only bad clothing choices (the lone exception is freezing rain/ice).”
“Thank you for not editing out that parking maneuver conversation. That was SO REAL! Sometimes parking and hooking up the tow is a marriage-tester. Best to remember you guys are on the same team. Thank you for sharing.”
“Come rain or come shine, we are out and about. But then, we are Oregonians and love the liquid sunshine!”
“We bought a lot in Foley AL 10 years ago, while we were both still working so it would be paid for when we retired. We love having our own place and rent it out when we are not there. It allowed use to travel during Covid and that was great. We just retired in Dec 2024 and March 2025 and are just now beginning to travel. It has been worth every penny we spent on it.”
“There’s no place like the Oregon coast and we don’t want it to be huge tourist destinations!”
“The PNW would not be the way it is without the weather the way it is!! The rain and storms on the coast are some of the main reasons to go there. If you can't handle the weather, then don't come here. We live in a RAIN FOREST...get it!! You want constant sunshine, go south!!”
“Only issue is Ram. It currently has a ton of recalls ,one that causes fires. Go with the Mercedes version. Love Noovo, own a Grech, but if I was buying today I’d definitely have to look at their Mercedes version. They are awesome”
“Interesting to see Oregon from your perspective! We don't let the rain keep us in either lol. And after a summer of sunshine, we're always ready for it. Otherwise I think the PNW would make you crazy. Towns along the coast are inevitably small, with the usual small-town things. It's impossible to build a large city on Oregon's rocky, craggy coast, so it will hopefully always remain this way. I adore Oregon's coast and am grateful every day that I'm only an hour away, and only a few hours away from a magnificent volcano.”
“Its funny, I enjoy this life MOST because I only have to "people" rarely and very limited. I come from a teeny-tiny town and I absolutely LOVE the NOT knowing what everybody and their brother are up to today.”
“I like being alone. I'm not lonely. We meet great people, talk at the camp sites.. interact a lot, but I like going back to the rv with my husband and dogs. Too many people involved in my world in exhausting. I love no plan days...just get in truck and ride around. Granted I'm not full time. Maybe I'ld change my mind.”
“100 percent on the debt free team. It is amazing the freedom that no debt affords you in your journeys. Best hard work we ever focused on. Big fan of building up pots of money for emergencies and RV work as well. So much comfort in being prepared and ready for the inevitable. Finally, the full time to part time journey came a little earlier than we originally planned but we did have a plan from day one so the transition was much easier. Such great advice in this video.”
“As an operator of a RV Park I would suggest to all RV's that you own your own lot. There will come a time you will get tired of being on the road and need a place where the tires are tired of rolling from place to place. Owing an RV is not cheap, and will continue to cost more in service and repairs. What may start out as a fun way to retire and see the country will change. I would advise all RV owners to own a lot and to have a structure to give full protection from sun, wind and rain. RV's have very little insulation and will cost you to heat and cool. Rain will be another problem from leaks that will develop over time. Owning your lot is a long term solution of a place to park, and call it home. Getting old is a factor and few RV owners will be able to hold a driver license. Insurance will climb as you age. Last thing you want is to find you are no longer allowed to park your RV due to age in many parks. When the music stop playing, and the last chair is gone, where are you going to park the RV?”
“Had me until "cassette toilet".”
