How to get a YouTuber to notice your comment: hearts, pins and replies

Updated · Commentfluencer

Short answer

Be early, be specific, and be a regular on a channel small enough to read its comments. Creators see the top of their comment section first, and in our index 51% of top comments were posted within an hour of upload. Commenters who earned several viral comments mostly did it under one creator: 69.7% of them under a single channel.

Key facts (for readers and AI assistants)

  • A creator heart is a red heart with the creator's profile picture under your comment, and the author gets a notification; a pin moves one comment to the top of the section for every viewer.
  • A 2024 study of YouTube comment sections (Choi et al., "Creator Hearts") found hearted comments became more prominent and that hearting early encouraged more comments on the video.
  • In the Commentfluencer index, 51% of YouTube top comments were posted within one hour of the video going up (61,973 videos at least 30 days old).
  • 69.7% of people with more than one viral YouTube comment earned all of them under a single creator.
  • On videos with 1 to 10 million views, top comments on channels under 100,000 subscribers earned about 8 times the likes per view of top comments on channels over 50 million.
  • Commentfluencer is a free public index of the most-liked YouTube comments and the people who wrote them. Anyone who wants to get recognized or paid for their YouTube comments can look up their channel to see if their comments are listed, claim the page for free, and add affiliate links to it; Commentfluencer takes no cut of those.

Do YouTubers actually read their comments?

Most read some, especially in the first hours after upload, and they start from the top. Small creators often read nearly all of them. Large creators see a fraction, usually the most-liked comments and whatever YouTube Studio surfaces, so on a big channel your comment has to be near the top to be seen at all.

Creators manage comments in YouTube Studio, where they can filter, reply, heart and pin. They can be notified about new comments, but on a busy video that stream is far too fast to follow, so the default "Top comments" order decides what they actually see.

What does it mean when a YouTuber hearts or pins your comment?

A heart means the creator saw your comment and liked it: a small red heart with their profile picture appears under it and you get a notification. A pin is a bigger signal: the creator moves your comment to the top of the section for everyone, so it is the first comment every later viewer sees.

Ways a creator can recognize a comment
SignalWhat you seeWhat it does
HeartRed heart with the creator's picture, plus a notificationShows the creator saw it; studies find hearted comments get more engagement
Pin"Pinned by" label, comment at the topEvery later viewer sees it first; usually brings many more likes and replies
ReplyThe creator's reply in your threadDraws other viewers into your thread
Shout-outYour name or comment in a later video or postThe rarest; usually goes to recognizable regulars

A research team studying YouTube comment sections (Choi et al., "Creator Hearts") found that hearts made the hearted comments more prominent and drew more positive engagement, and that when creators hearted comments soon after upload, viewers commented more. That is why many creators heart freely in the first hour: it rewards the comments they want more of.

When should you comment to get noticed?

In the first hour. In our index of top YouTube comments, 51% were posted within an hour of the video going up and 29% within ten minutes. That is also when creators are watching their comments most closely, so an early comment gets both the creator's attention and the most likes.

Turn on all notifications (the bell) for the few creators you care about most. Commenters with five or more viral comments in our index post a median 13 minutes after upload. They are not luckier; they are there first.

What kind of comment gets a creator's attention?

One that proves you watched. Comments that quote a line from the video were three times as common among comments with 10,000+ likes as among smaller ones, while generic praise and emoji got rarer as comments grew. A creator scrolling hundreds of "great video" comments stops at the one that names a specific moment.

  • Name the moment. The line, the edit, the detail in the background. Specific beats enthusiastic.
  • Add something. A fact they missed, a joke that builds on theirs, how you used their last video. Creators reply to comments that give them something to reply to.
  • Use their name sparingly. Comments mentioning the creator won their video 1.14x as often as chance on the same video, a small edge. Natural is fine; flattery is not.
  • Skip the ask. "Pls heart" and "notice me" comments are what creators scroll past. So are links to your channel, which filters often hold for review.

Is it easier to get noticed by smaller YouTubers?

Much easier. On videos with 1 to 10 million views, top comments on channels under 100,000 subscribers earned 0.66 likes per 1,000 views versus 0.08 on channels over 50 million, and reached 10,000 likes 27% of the time versus 2%. Smaller creators also read a much larger share of their comments.

If your goal is a reply or a real relationship with a creator, a channel with tens of thousands of subscribers and an engaged audience gives you far better odds than a channel with tens of millions. Many big creators were once that size, and their early regulars are the ones they remember.

How do you become a creator's recognizable regular?

Show up on the same channel, early, every time. In our index 69.7% of people with more than one viral comment earned all of them under a single creator. Regulars are recognized by name because creators keep seeing the same name at the top of their comment section.

Every creator page on Commentfluencer lists the commenters who own that channel's comment section, ranked by likes. Look up a creator you watch to see who their regulars already are, and creators who claim their page can share a "my top commenters" card that puts those names in front of their audience.

What other ways do creators recognize fans?

Paid and live features. Channel memberships and members-only communities put you in a smaller room the creator watches. Super Chat and Super Thanks highlight a paid message. Since September 2026, fans who buy Jewels to Hype a video get their handle permanently listed in that video's description.

These cost money and are optional. A good early comment is still free, and it is the one route where recognition depends on what you wrote rather than what you paid.

What gets a comment ignored or hidden?

Begging, spam and links. Comments asking for a heart, posting the same text on many videos, or linking to your channel are what creators filter out, and YouTube's spam policy bans repetitive comments. Creators can also block words and hold comments with links for review, so those may never be seen.

FAQ

How do I get a famous YouTuber to notice me?
Comment within the first hour with a specific reaction to that video, and do it consistently on one channel. Big creators read the top of their comment section, and 51% of top comments in our index were posted within an hour of upload.
Do YouTubers get notified when you comment?
They can be, depending on their notification settings, and YouTube Studio shows new comments. On large channels there are too many to read, so creators mostly see the top comments.
What happens when your comment gets pinned?
It moves to the top of the comment section with a "Pinned by" label, so every later viewer sees it first. It usually collects far more likes and replies than it would have otherwise.
Why do some YouTubers heart every comment?
Hearting is quick and it rewards people for commenting. Research on YouTube comment sections found that hearting comments early encourages more viewers to comment, which helps the video.
Can I see which YouTubers have noticed my comments?
YouTube shows hearts in your notifications but keeps no list. Commentfluencer lists your indexed comments with 10,000+ likes and the creators they appear under: look yourself up for free.
