Hi Mat, former Bugatti employee here. Did a bit of digging on this and there is a legitimate way to fix it, but it’s not easy at all. Bugatti won’t directly supply gearbox or casing parts for that VIN at all, once it’s salvaged and not going back to France the parts are locked, dealers can’t order them even if they want to. That crack isn’t a hairline, it’s the gearbox bellhousing / intermediate casing that’s fractured from drivetrain inertia. Official Bugatti fix is full gearbox replacement only, no repairs, which is why they quoted such a sum, Bugatti is very fond about repairs being as close to dealer spec as possible. A realistic fix would be that the engine and gearbox have to come out as a unit, gearbox fully stripped, casing either aerospace TIG or laser welded then CNC line-bored and machined back to spec, or the casing gets 3D scanned and remade from billet. Welding alone won’t work, the machining after is what makes it survive. If alignment, shaft runout or turbo mounting is even slightly off, it’ll destroy itself. Not factory-approved, but technically fixable by the right transmission + aerospace machine shop. If you pull it off, it’ll be one of the wildest rebuilds ever. You have my support on this journey, but I will say Bugatti doesn't approve of this. 😅
